What is Vitamin B12?
Plain language first. The technical label stays, but it never stands alone.Overview
An essential vitamin, needed for nerves and red blood cells. Injections are a real, approved treatment when someone is genuinely deficient.
Cobalamin, an essential water-soluble vitamin required for methionine synthase and methylmalonyl-CoA mutase activity. Injectable cyanocobalamin is an approved prescription treatment for B12 deficiency, including deficiency from pernicious anaemia, coeliac disease, bariatric surgery or long-term metformin use.
What it's used for
Sold for energy, mood and metabolic support. Injections correct a genuine deficiency; in people who are not deficient, the evidence for an energy effect is thin.
How does Vitamin B12 work?
What it does in the body, and where.B12 is the most ordinary thing in this catalogue, which is what makes its presence here interesting.
- 01The body cannot make itIt comes from food or supplements, and absorption depends on intrinsic factor in the stomach, which is why gut surgery and pernicious anaemia cause deficiency.
- 02Deficiency is a real diagnosis with a real treatmentInjections bypass the absorption problem, which is why they are an approved prescription treatment.
- 03The energy claim rests on thatCorrecting deficiency restores energy. Giving more to someone who is replete mostly produces expensive urine.
What else is it used for?
Each use below carries its own evidence level. Approved means regulators have cleared it for that purpose. Investigational means it is in trials. Early research means it is being studied and is not established.

Unlike most of this catalogue, B12 is stored. Liver stores can cover years of intake, which is why deficiency develops slowly.

How do I dose and price it?
Enter your vial and your dose. Pick a mix. We show the draw and the cost. The vial holds a fixed amount of drug. Adding more water does not make more drug, it just spreads it thinner, so you draw a bigger number on the syringe for the same dose.

Unmixed lyophilized Vitamin B12 keeps for a long time cold. Once you add water the clock starts: most reconstituted vials hold up for roughly 28 to 30 days at fridge temperature. Keep it out of light, and do not freeze it after mixing.
What are the side effects and cautions?
