How to Vet a Peptide Vendor
Peptides are not regulated the way medicines are, so the burden of checking quality falls on you. Two vials labeled "BPC-157" can be very different products: one at 99% purity, another at 90% cut with unknown leftovers from synthesis. Purity is not a detail, it decides what you are actually putting in your body. This page is how to tell a real source from a risky one. It does not recommend any seller.

First, know which lane you are in
There are two very different ways people get peptides, and they are not the same on safety or legality.
The prescription route. Licensed compounding pharmacies and telehealth clinics can legally provide the approved or prescribable compounds, the GLP-1 weight-loss drugs, sermorelin, PT-141, and similar, with a prescription. This is the above-board path, and the product is made under pharmacy standards.
The research route. Most other peptides are sold "for research use only, not for human consumption" by research-chemical vendors. This is a legal gray area, the products are not reviewed by the FDA, and quality is entirely on the vendor. Everything below is about judging vendors in this second lane, where there is no regulator doing it for you. Before you buy anything, look the compound up and check its current status.
The green flags (what a trustworthy vendor does)
Independent third-party testing. The vendor sends its product to an outside lab that runs HPLC (to measure purity) and mass spectrometry (to confirm it is actually the compound claimed). In-house testing alone does not count, the lab must be independent.
A batch-specific Certificate of Analysis, posted publicly. A COA is the lab report. It should match the exact lot you are buying, not a generic sample from months ago, and it should be viewable on the product page, not hidden behind an "email us for the COA" wall.
Purity you can read. Look for a stated figure with the method beside it. Most vendors claim 98% or higher. Longer or more complex peptides can legitimately come in around 95% without anything being wrong, so below 95% the question is what the impurities are, and below 90% is a walk away. US synthesis. Not because of oversight, since a domestic research vendor is no more regulated than an overseas one. What it buys is a shorter supply chain, a seller inside a jurisdiction where the FDA can act, and a parcel that does not cross a border. Faster shipping and fewer seizures follow from the same thing.
A testing lab you can look up. The strongest signal is a COA that names an independent lab you can find on your own. The names that come up most often as credible are Janoshik Analytical, and the US labs MZ Biolabs and Colmaric Analyticals. If the COA names a lab that does not seem to exist, treat the whole thing as unverified.
The red flags (what should make you walk away)
Products labeled "for human use." Legitimate research vendors deliberately avoid this language. A seller using it is either careless about the law or trying to look medical, and both are bad signs.
No COA, or a COA that will not load. If you cannot see proof for the specific batch, you have no idea what you are buying.
In-house testing only. A vendor grading its own homework is not proof.
Cold-email spam and seeded reviews. Reputable vendors do not cold-email you. And the community regularly catches sellers posting their own five-star reviews, so weigh reviews on independent platforms, not the vendor's own site.
Brand-new sellers with aggressive pricing and no history. The market churns hard. Well-known names have shut down recently, and new vendors rush in to fill the gap. A real track record takes months to build, so treat a brand-new store with rock-bottom prices as elevated risk until it earns trust. How to actually read a COA
When you open a Certificate of Analysis, check four things. Does the lot or batch number on the COA match the one on your vial? Does the HPLC purity meet the bar you set (96% floor, 99% better)? Does the mass-spec result confirm it is the right compound, not just "something pure"? And is there a named, independent lab and a recent date on it? If any of those four is missing, the COA is not doing its job.
Re-check, because this market moves
A vendor that was solid last year may be gone or rebranded this year. Names shut down, quality drifts, and ownership changes quietly. Whatever source you settle on, re-verify the COA on new batches rather than assuming last time's quality carries over. Our vendor directory and price pages track who is currently operating.
Common questions
How do I know if a peptide vendor is legitimate?
Independent third-party testing, a certificate of analysis matching the exact lot you are buying, a named lab you can look up yourself, and a purity figure with the method stated beside it. A vendor missing any of those is asking you to take its word for something you can otherwise check.
Can I trust the reviews on a vendor's site?
Treat them as marketing. Sellers in this market have repeatedly been caught posting their own reviews, so weight goes to independent platforms and community discussion rather than to testimonials the vendor controls.
Is a brand-new vendor automatically bad?
Not automatically, and it is elevated risk. A track record takes months to build, and this market churns hard enough that new stores appear whenever a known name disappears. Aggressive pricing with no history is the combination to be careful with.
Does it matter if the peptide is made in the US?

The bottom line
Cheapest is never the same as safest. Judge a vendor on independent testing, a real batch COA you can see, honest purity numbers, and US synthesis, and walk away from anything labeled for human use or hiding its lab work. If you are after an approved compound, the prescription and compounding-pharmacy route exists for a reason.
