01

What is Selank?

Plain language first. The technical label stays, but it never stands alone.

Overview

It gently tunes two of the brain's calming systems, GABA and serotonin. The aim is less anxiety without drowsiness or dependence.

The technical version

Selank is a synthetic version of tuftsin, a natural immune-and-brain peptide, given as a nasal spray.

What it's used for

Eases anxiety and stress while keeping you clear-headed, without the sedation or dependence of anti-anxiety pills. It is often paired with Semax.

02

How does Selank work?

What it does in the body, and where.

Selank is a synthetic version of tuftsin, a natural peptide that sits at the junction of immune and brain signalling.

  1. 01
It slows the breakdown of calming molecules
Rather than binding a receptor directly, it appears to extend how long your own calming signals last.
  2. 02
    Anxiety falls without sedation
This is the claim that distinguishes it from benzodiazepines, and the reason for the interest.
  3. 03
Nasal, because it would not survive injection well
    Same reasoning as Semax.
  4. 04
    Almost all evidence is Russian-language
It is a registered medicine there. The studies are largely unreplicated in Western journals.

03

What else is it used for?

Each group carries its own evidence level.

Approved means regulators have cleared it for that purpose. Investigational means it is in trials. Early research means it is being studied and is not established.

Anxiety

Clinical use
  • Human trialIn 62 patients with generalised anxiety, it performed similarly to a standard benzodiazepine on three anxiety scales, with less fatigue. The study was not double-blind or placebo-controlled and reported no statistics.
  • RegulatoryIt is approved in Russia as a nasal spray for generalised anxiety.

Mechanism

Early research
  • Lab studyIt blocks the enzymes that break down natural calming molecules, prolonging their effect.
  • Animal studyIt altered BDNF activity in the rat hippocampus.
  • No dataWidely repeated claims of trials in hundreds of patients do not trace to any identifiable published study.
Often left out

Claims of trials in 800 patients circulate widely but do not trace to any identifiable published study. The real evidence base is one 62-patient Russian trial.
