Approved by the FDA on April 1, 2026 under the brand name Foundayo, the first oral GLP-1 for weight loss that is not a peptide; the Wegovy pill came about three months earlier. It was cleared in a 50-day review under the FDA's National Priority Voucher program. In the US it is approved only for weight management; its use in type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and knee arthritis is still being studied there. Outside the US, the United Arab Emirates approved it for weight management in April 2026 and Saudi Arabia on August 2, 2026, and on August 10, 2026 the UK's MHRA authorized it for both weight management and type 2 diabetes. On October 16, 2026, the EMA announced that its medicines committee (CHMP) had recommended EU approval for weight management and type 2 diabetes in adults; the European Commission makes the final decision.
