What is ABBV-295?
Plain language first. The technical label stays, but it never stands alone.Overview
Amylin is the other appetite hormone, and this site already carries ten drugs built on it. What marks this one out is not how much weight it took off but how rarely it has to be injected. A half-life of ten to twelve days meant that in early testing a single monthly injection produced about as much weight loss over three months as the weekly doses did. Read the figures with the population in mind: this was 60 people, mostly men, with an average body mass index just under 30.
ABBV-295 is an investigational long-acting amylin analog, discovered by Gubra using its streaMLine platform and developed by AbbVie. Its mean half-life in phase 1 was 10.7 to 12.3 days, and the companies say that supports dosing intervals beyond weekly. No sequence, residue count or modification has been disclosed. A phase 2 trial in adults with overweight and obesity, NCT07752979, began in August 2026.
What it's used for
Nothing yet. It is an investigational injection for overweight and obesity, in a phase 2 trial that started in August 2026.
How does ABBV-295 work?
What it does in the body, and where.Amylin is released with insulin and tells the brainstem a meal has arrived. Drugs copying it blunt appetite and slow the stomach, and they work alongside the GLP-1 drugs rather than through the same receptor. The engineering problem is duration.
- 01What amylin doesThe natural hormone acts on amylin receptors in the brainstem's appetite centers, slowing stomach emptying and reducing how much food feels necessary. The natural peptide aggregates and clears quickly, and that is why every drug in this class is a modified version rather than the hormone itself.
- 02Where the ten to twelve days comes fromGubra has not said. The release names the discovery platform and the resulting half-life of 10.7 to 12.3 days and publishes no sequence, no residue count and no modification, so the mechanism behind the duration is not public.
- 03Why the monthly arm is the interesting oneWeekly dosing produced 7.8 to 9.8 percent weight loss at 12 weeks. A single 8 mg injection each month produced 7.9 percent at 13 weeks, and every other week produced 9.7 percent. If that holds up in larger trials, the argument for this drug is the injection schedule rather than the depth of the effect.

What else is it used for?
Each group carries its own evidence level.Approved means regulators have cleared it for that purpose. Investigational means it is in trials. Early research means it is being studied and is not established.
What phase 1 actually showed
Investigational- Human trialSixty participants, 45 on ABBV-295 and 15 on placebo, over 12 or 13 weeks. Weight fell 7.8 to 9.8 percent on weekly dosing, 9.7 percent every other week and 7.9 percent monthly, against about 0.3 percent on placebo.
- Human trialMean half-life 10.7 to 12.3 days, the figure that makes a monthly injection arguable at all.
- No dataThe population matters for reading those numbers: mean age 41.5, mean body mass index 29.3 and 88 percent men. That is a dose-finding group at the threshold of obesity, not the population a phase 3 enrolls.
Tolerability, reported in some detail
Investigational- Human trialNausea 33.3 percent against 20.0 percent on placebo, diarrhea 20.0 percent against none. Gastrointestinal events were mostly mild and clustered in the first six weeks, and 92 percent of those affected had mild as their worst event.
- Human trialGastrointestinal discontinuations were 4.4 percent against none on placebo. No severe gastrointestinal events and no serious treatment-emergent adverse events were reported.
- No dataA placebo nausea rate of 20 percent in a 15-person placebo group is three people, so the difference rests on small numbers in both arms.
What has not been disclosed
none- No dataNo sequence, no residue count and no modification. The release names the discovery platform and nothing about the molecule itself.
- RegulatoryNo FDA substance record, International Nonproprietary Name or CAS number was located, so a sample offered under this name cannot be checked against any reference.
- No dataThe phase 2 dose regimen has not been published either, so which of the three intervals the program chose is not yet public.
The weight-loss figures here invite a comparison they cannot support. Seven to ten percent in a phase 1 of 60 people with an average body mass index of 29.3, 88 percent of them men, over 12 or 13 weeks, is not the same kind of number as a phase 3 result in people with obesity over a year or more. The useful finding is the half-life of 10.7 to 12.3 days and the monthly arm it made possible, not the percentage. The tolerability numbers also rest on small groups: a 20 percent placebo nausea rate means three people out of fifteen. Finally, this is one of eleven amylin entries on this site, so a claim that it is the first or only long-acting amylin analog is wrong; what it has is a published monthly dosing result.

How do I dose and price it?
Enter your vial and your dose. Pick a mix. We show the draw and the cost. The vial holds a fixed amount of drug. Adding more water does not make more drug, it just spreads it thinner, so you draw a bigger number on the syringe for the same dose.

How do you store it?
Before mixing, and after.Nothing to store: it is not sold anywhere.
ABBV-295 has never been marketed, so there is no vial, pen or bottle to keep at home. Supplies for a trial are made, stored and dispensed by the sponsor and the trial pharmacy under conditions set in the protocol. Anything offered for sale under this name did not come from that supply chain.
What are the side effects and cautions?

- Any use outside the trial: no product exists and no approved dose has been set
- Anything sold under this name: no sequence has been published, so a vial cannot be checked against a reference
- Reading a phase 1 weight-loss figure as comparable to a phase 3 result for an approved drug

What has happened recently
Not approved anywhere. Gubra reported detailed phase 1 data on September 30, 2026, presented at EASD 2026. The multiple ascending dose part enrolled 60 participants, 45 on ABBV-295 and 15 on placebo, with a mean age of 41.5, a mean body mass index of 29.3 and 88 percent men, dosed at 4, 6 or 14 mg once weekly, 14 mg every other week or 8 mg monthly for 12 or 13 weeks. A phase 2 trial in adults with overweight and obesity, NCT07752979, was initiated in August 2026. The release states that the safety and efficacy of ABBV-295 have not been established and that it has not been approved by any health regulatory authority worldwide. No FDA substance record, International Nonproprietary Name or CAS number was located.
