CJC-1295 + GHRP-6

Ipamorelin exists because of what this half does wrong.

This is the original version of the standard growth hormone pairing, still sold premixed. GHRP-6 raises cortisol and produces the strongest hunger of any compound in its class. A 1998 study introduced ipamorelin as the fix for exactly those problems, and most people now buy that instead.

Why people stack these

The same two switches, with the older key.

Growth hormone reaches the blood through two doors. CJC-1295 works the GHRH receptor and GHRP-6 works the ghrelin receptor, which is the same logic behind CJC-1295 with ipamorelin.

GHRP-6 came first. It was one of the earliest growth hormone releasing peptides discovered, and the whole class that followed was built from it.[1]

Two reasons people still choose it. It is the cheapest compound in the category, and it is described as the most potent growth hormone releaser of the group.[2]

The cost is that the ghrelin receptor does several things at once, and GHRP-6 triggers all of them.

The third row is the interesting one. For most people it is a side effect, and for a few it is the reason to choose this over the alternative.

Does it work?

Three questions, answered before anything else.

Why did ipamorelin replace this?
Selectivity. GHRP-6 raises more than growth hormone.A 1998 study introduced ipamorelin as the first selective compound in the class, producing growth hormone without the cortisol, prolactin and appetite that came with it.
Is GHRP-6 weaker?
No, and that is the point. The issue is what else it does.Sources describe GHRP-6 as the most potent growth hormone releaser of the group. One guide puts it plainly: the difference is selectivity, not potency.
Why is it still sold?
Price, mostly. It is the cheapest in the category. We track it below the price of ipamorelin per vial, and premixed blends pairing it with CJC-1295 are still listed by several vendors.
The study that replaced it

Ipamorelin was built to fix this exact compound.

In 1998 Raun and colleagues at Novo Nordisk described ipamorelin as the first selective growth hormone secretagogue.[3] Selective meant one thing: it released growth hormone and left the rest of the system alone.

The comparison was run directly against GHRP-6. At doses producing equivalent growth hormone release, ipamorelin showed no meaningful elevation of cortisol, prolactin or aldosterone. Even at doses far above those needed for growth hormone, the off-target hormones stayed close to baseline.[3]

That finding is why the modern pairing uses ipamorelin. The literature treats selectivity as its defining characteristic, and the result has been independently replicated.[4]

The class is usually described as a progression: GHRP-6, then GHRP-2, then ipamorelin, each more selective than the last.[5] GHRP-6 sits at the least selective end, and one compound guide records it as largely superseded in clinical use for that reason.[2]

So this pairing is not a different approach from the common one. It is the previous version of it, and the thing that changed is documented.

The hunger

Twenty minutes, and the strongest in the class.

GHRP-6 produces the most pronounced appetite stimulation of any growth hormone secretagogue. Users report intense hunger within twenty to thirty minutes of a dose.[2]

The mechanism is not a side effect in the usual sense. The ghrelin receptor sits on neurons in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus that drive feeding, and activating it switches those cells on.[6] Those neurons have been called the hunger neurons, and ghrelin itself is the hormone that rises before meals.[6]

So the hunger and the growth hormone come from the same receptor. It is not a contaminant that better manufacturing could remove.

That matters because of why people buy a growth hormone stack. Most want body composition change, and a compound that makes eating harder to control works against that. The exception is someone trying to gain weight or recovering appetite after illness, where it is the useful part rather than the cost.

Ipamorelin was engineered to leave those neurons alone while still triggering the pituitary.[4] The modern pairing's page covers the rest of its record, including two failed Phase 2 trials.

The cortisol problem

A catabolic hormone, in a stack bought to build.

One comparison puts GHRP-6's cortisol co-stimulation at 20 to 50 percent above baseline, against minimal or absent for ipamorelin at growth hormone effective doses.[4] Prolactin rises too, more than with GHRP-2 or ipamorelin.[2]

Cortisol breaks tissue down. Raising it alongside growth hormone in a stack bought for lean mass works against the stated goal. That is the clearest argument against this pairing, and the reason sources call the elevation undesirable for long-term use.[2]

One source suggests a cleaner way to study the same question: use the selective compound and add a separate cortisol intervention, rather than a non-selective one that raises both at once.[7] That is research framing, and the logic carries over.

Anyone taking this pairing has a reason to have cortisol, prolactin and IGF-1 measured, since all three move and none of them announce themselves. That is a conversation for a doctor.

What it costs

Cheaper, and that is most of the argument for it.

GHRP-6 is the least expensive growth hormone secretagogue we track, listed below ipamorelin.[8] On a pairing where the other half is the same compound either way, that difference is the whole saving.

Premixed versions exist. We track six listings pairing CJC-1295 with GHRP-6, of which two show no stock and three do not state how much of each compound they contain.[8]

One blend is worth singling out. A vendor sells sermorelin with both GHRP-2 and GHRP-6 in one vial. Those two act on the same receptor, so that product pays twice for one door and leaves the other half of the pairing to sermorelin alone.[8]

Nothing approved, and both banned.

Neither compound has approval anywhere. Everything sold online is research chemical material with no approved label.

Both are banned by WADA at all times, in and out of competition. Growth hormone releasing factors cover CJC-1295 and growth hormone secretagogues cover GHRP-6, so a tested athlete taking this pairing has committed a violation on two counts.

GHRP-6's oral bioavailability is under one percent, which is why it is injected and why the search for oral alternatives produced compounds like MK-677.[1] That page covers MK-677, where the same receptor-overlap problem appears with GHRP-2.

Anyone already taking a growth hormone compound and considering a switch has a reason to raise cortisol and prolactin with a prescriber first. Both move on this one, and neither is obvious without a test.

Common questions

What people ask about this stack

Should I use GHRP-6 or ipamorelin with CJC-1295?

Ipamorelin is the modern choice and the reason is documented. A 1998 study introduced it as the first selective growth hormone secretagogue. At doses producing equivalent growth hormone release it did not meaningfully raise cortisol, prolactin or aldosterone the way GHRP-6 does. GHRP-6 is cheaper and described as the more potent growth hormone releaser, so the trade is cost and potency against a clean hormonal profile.

Why does GHRP-6 make you so hungry?

GHRP-6's hunger comes from where the ghrelin receptor sits. Those neurons are in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus that drive feeding, sometimes called the hunger neurons. Switching on that receptor to release growth hormone switches those cells on at the same time. Users report intense hunger within twenty to thirty minutes, the strongest effect of any compound in the class. It cannot be separated out, because the hunger and the growth hormone come from the same receptor.

Does GHRP-6 raise cortisol?

Yes. One comparison puts the elevation at 20 to 50 percent above baseline, against minimal or absent for ipamorelin at growth hormone effective doses. Prolactin rises as well, more than with GHRP-2 or ipamorelin. Cortisol breaks tissue down, so raising it in a stack bought for lean mass works against the goal, and sources describe the elevation as undesirable for long-term use.

Is GHRP-6 weaker than ipamorelin?

No. Sources describe GHRP-6 as the most potent growth hormone releaser in the class, and one guide states that the difference between them is selectivity rather than potency. Another records GHRP-6 as producing greater growth hormone release than ipamorelin, with the cortisol, prolactin and appetite effects that ipamorelin avoids. Those two framings conflict slightly on magnitude and agree on the mechanism.

Is there ever a reason to pick GHRP-6?

Two. It is the cheapest compound in the category, and its appetite effect is useful rather than unwanted for someone trying to gain weight or recover appetite. One research guide notes the other case: studying the multi-hormonal effects of non-selective receptor activation specifically requires a non-selective compound. For body composition, which is why most people buy a growth hormone stack, the appetite effect works against the goal.

What about blends containing GHRP-2 and GHRP-6 together?

GHRP-2 and GHRP-6 act on the same receptor, so a vial containing both pays twice for one mechanism. We track one in-stock listing pairing sermorelin with both of them, which leaves the GHRH half of the pairing to sermorelin alone while doubling up on the ghrelin side. Compare against the other stacks.
